Grain of Salt

Looking through the viewfinder is a scene that has transcended generations and time itself. My connection to the ocean is always how I have connected with my dad, who passed away when I was little. Now through photography, I’m finding ways of connecting to my parents that I never knew existed before. Finding my father's photographic projects from his past led me to explore a way of working that recreates the ways he once worked...

This project Grain of Salt was shot with 35 mm film and printed on black and white warm tone fiber paper. Who would have thought my parents' college homework would become my own?

Dedication To John McKivett

“We all come from the sea, but we are not all of the sea. Those of us who are, we children of the tide, must come back to it again and again until the day we don’t come back leaving behind what was left behind the way.”
